These will become new, healthy habits and the weight you lose will stay off. Here are some tips that will jump start your and are also easy to maintain long term.


- Start the day with a glass of water to rehydrate after your night's sleep and put something in your stomach. Drink ice water or cold water from the refrigerator. The body will burn extra calories heating up the cold water to body temperature.

- Eat

four or five small meals throughout the day rather than three bigger meals. This will keep your at-rest metabolism ramped up, which helps you lose weight faster.

- Don't gobble your food! Eat slowly; chew thoroughly; put your fork or spoon down between bites. Give your body a chance to recognize when it has had enough food to feel satisfied.

- Don't go to bed on a full stomach. Eat your last meal of the day four or five hours before going to bed so that you have time to fully digest it while you are still active.

- If you're always a member of the "clean plate club", eating everything in front of you, reduce the portions you put on your plate. You'll be surprised at how little you need to eat to feel satisfied.

- Exercise! Don't veg out in front of the TV. Take a 30 minute walk instead of watching the news. The news will just depress you anyway. You can lose weight by dieting alone, but exercising will speed up the process, and you'll probably feel better in the bargain.

As you can see, none of these tips are earth-shattering. They are sensible, easy to follow, and do-able for the long term. Adopt a sensible plan, follow these tips and you will not only lose weight but you will keep it off.
