3 Reasons Why Fad Diet Plans Fail By Terry Edwards If you have ever tried to follow a fad you already know that most all of these plans simply do not work if you want your weight loss to be permanent. While you probably will lose a few pounds as you follow one, the pounds will come back the minute you stop following the diet. Here are three reasons why most fad plans do not work:
1. Fad diets don't actually help you lose fat. When you follow these types of plans you lose water weight and muscle mass but you do not actually lose fat, which is the thing you need to lose the most if you want to get rid of arm or belly fat. As soon as you go back to your usual eating habits, the water weight and muscle mass will come back - along with the weight they carry.
2. Fad diets are usually too strict for most people. When you follow a you will usually get cravings for the old treats you used to enjoy. These cravings are perfectly natural. Who wouldn't crave the old fried foods that you used to snack on with your friends? After a few days of a very strict diet, you get bored with the few foods you are allowed to eat and all you will want are the fried foods you can no longer have. Unfortunately if you actually eat those fried foods, you'll gain back every ounce you've managed to lose.
The catch twenty two of dieting is that depriving yourself of your favorite foods for any lengthy period of time will stress you out. When people feel stressed out they usually eat more food in an effort to ease your tension. This leads to an unnatural weight gain which makes the a waste of your time and hard work.
3. Fad diets usually slow down peoples' metabolism
rates. This is certainly true for the weight loss diets that promote low calories, low fat and low carbohydrate intakes. When your metabolism is working properly, you are better able to lose weight and burn fat. The thing is, to keep your metabolism working properly; you need to keep your body supplied with a healthy amount of fat, carbohydrates and calories! When you partake of the "low everything" plans, your metabolism rate slows down as well.
When your body senses that you have lowered your food intake to levels that aren't normal your body will think that you are fasting and it will take steps to make sure that it stays healthy in spite of your efforts otherwise. One of the first things it will do is to conserve your energy by storing it in your fat cells! Typically your body burns fat unless it wants to conserve energy in which case it stores fat so that it can survive in the event that you stop ingesting food altogether.
The key to a diet's success is your moderation. You can still have your favorite foods as long as you eat them in moderation! You don't have to deny yourself the foods you enjoy or eat foods that you normally hate. You don't even have to limit your to natural foods. The best kind of is one that consists of seventy percent good and healthy foods and thirty percent "junk" foods. That way you don't have to worry about food cravings and you won't have to feel stressed out if you do cheat on your diet. Another hint for success is to try not to eat late at night or at odd times. When you eat during the times you are normally resting, your body won't even try to burn the calories you are consuming!
